What is a good game? What makes you enjoy a game?
I, myself, like any game that I have a hand in creating. But I also realize other people have to like it and that is very tricky to accomplish.
One of the people I look up too is Robert John ' Mutt' Lange, who if you don't know is the music producer who has sold the most albums in the history of music. However, he's a recluse, so not many know of him.

Turn over Highway To Hell, Back In Black, Foreigner 4, For Those About To Rock, Pyromania, Heartbeat City, Hysteria, Waking Up The Neighbors, The Woman In Me, Come On Over and Up! and you'll see his name. Not to mention the songs he's written like "Do You Believe In Love" and "Lovin' Every Minute Of It."
The one thing he said once is: "Don't fall in love with your idea because we're going to change them."
It's so easy to fall in love with a game I'm working on and I try to always have that Mutt Lange thought in the back of my mind.
"Lets take it down this road and see if it works. If not, we'll try a different road." I've taken that attitude when it comes to producing games and I know it drives some people nuts I work with. And it can get very costly.
Everyone thinks games should be made like movies and TV shows. However, I prefer to make games like music is made. It's a little more difficult, yet rewarding I believe. See Gold Miner.
So that brings me back to my question: What is a good game?
I realize that's a very broad question, so lets take Gold Miner.
I like it because it's a very easy game to learn. The game has a charm and personality about it, not found in many other games. And that it gives me a break every minute to clear my head and focus on the next level.
Why do you like that game?
