What makes a man a father?
Jun 13, 2006 | 8:37PM
I was siting here tonight feeling very thankful that I still have Dad.  I remember being a tiny little thing and running to the door when he got home from work, waiting to see if his lunch pail would rattle.  If we hear that wonderful rattle, my sister and I would squeal for joy.  Daddy brought us bubble gum!  Them we would hang one from each arm as he carried us to the kitchen to see what Mom was cooking for dinner.  We would slide down his poor tired legs and bounce on his knees.  Mom would try to call us off of him, but he wanted us to use him as our jungle gym.  Dad worked long hours on his feet usually 6 days a week, building pianos and organs and tv cabinet when console tvs were the thing.  He devoted his life to Kimbal.  He injured himself trying to increase his speed until he finally lost a finger. On his retirement Kimbal gave him a $100 wrist watch and a cheeseburger lunch.  At least they acknowledged him.  My dad is almost completely deaf, but modern medical science has allowed him to hear so much that is so dear to him.  His first grandchild's earliest cries brought tears to his eyes.  He is still the joy of all of their lives.  He gives each of them all of the love in the world.  He listens to their stories and their silly songs.  He makes all 8 of them feel so special.  Just like he does both of his daughters and his son.  He is such a dear man.  I am so grateful he is my daddy.
