Tonight was one of the best shows ever. It keeps getting better and
better. This week was an acoustic week. They brought in a strings
section and slowed everything down. A couple people did much better in
this style.
Another
change this week was that the band picked the songs for each singer
instead of them fighting over them. They got a letter explaining why
they got that song. There was only one performance that I thought
wasn't that great and it wasn't that bad.
The "clinic" this week was for song writing. They divided them into 2
teams of 4 to write a song together. My favorite jerk, JD, decided that
his team's song sucked, so he quit and wrote his own. Because it was a
"team building" test, his team lost. During the intro of the tonight's
show, he totally criticized his team, their song, and got booed. What
an idiot.
Here's what happened with the performances tonight.
Jordis went first and sang "Heaven's Door" by Bob Dylan. This is
a classic that could easily go badly. She sang it differently than the
original, but "made it her own" and did really well. I love this song
and she gave me chills. This was another home run. Outstanding.
Jessica sang "Torn" and did really well. It was probably her
best performance ever. Not the best on the show, but her personal best.
She needed it and she got it. Not bad at all. I liked it and I think
she'll avoid the bottom 3 this week.
Ty sang "Maggie May" by Rod Stewart. I grew up with this song.
It was one of my first records. I love it, but Ty didn't make me happy.
He did a good job. Ty always does, but he didn't thrill me. He gave it
a Motown groove and it was interesting, but I wasn't feeling it.
Suzie did "Bring It On Home" and did a really good job for a
white girl singing a black man's song. She had some soul and really
worked it. I liked her and I think she did really good. INXS said she
had one of the best voices in the competition. I agree.
Marty...
Marty. Marty. Marty. Un-freaking-believable. He was assigned "Baby, One
More Time" from Britney Spears. Yes, Marty sings Britney. Just roll
that around in your head for a minute. So, how did he do? Imagine
Britney done by Nirvana. He took it to a whole new place, a darker,
twisted place. He made this song actually really, really good. If I
hadn't known that she had done it before, I would never have guess that
it was a pop song. There was no sugar in this performance. It was
filled with angst and emotion. I loved this. Marty is my new hero. I
just sat there saying "Wow" over and over as I listened. Unbelievable.
They should just hire this guy now and forget the rest of the show.
Wow.
Deanna sang "Can't Make You Love Me" by Bonnie Raitt. I must say
that this is my wife's favorite song, by her favorite performer. She
thought it was terrible, but I think that's because she loves the
original so much. I think that Deanna did a good job. Not as good as
Bonnie, that's true, and maybe not good enough to stay out the the
bottom 3, but she did a good job. A little shakey, but it was a very
difficult song, technically, to sing. I liked it, but it may not be
good enough.
JD tried to do "As Tears Go By", a Rolling Stones song. INXS
told him that they wanted to hear him be "real" with this song. I gotte
tell you, he can fake "real" with the best of them. Look at how many
people like this arrogant pig. He did this one alright, but not great.
I'd almost give a "good", but it was easily the worst performance of
the night. His entertaiment value has worn out. He needs to go home
tomorrow. He got mixed reviews from INXS. I didn't get it. JD Go Home!

Mig was the final performance of the night. He was assigned the
Peter Framption song "Baby I love Your Way", which I was never
impressed with. He chose to play the piano himself while he sang. This
could go so bad, in so many ways. I like Mig and I hoped for the best.
Then he started to play and sing. Wow. Another amazing performance. I'm
not sure he nailed it technically, but it gave me chills. He took a
mediocre song and made it great. Dave Navaro's comment at the end was
that he's always thinking about what he's gonna say at the end of each
song, but during that performance, all he could think about was how
much he loved his wife. It really moved me too. Another home run, out
of the park.
Jordis, Marty, and Mig were the big winners tonight. They were all
amazing, over and above. At the end of the show they gave the bottom
three at the moment. They were " Ty, Deana, and Jessica. If Ty is in
the bottom, then JD should be there instead of Jessica. I predict that
the final bottom three will be Ty, Deanna, and JD. He does have his
fans though, so who knows about JD. What do you guys see in him?
So, It was a good show. What did you think about this week? Tell me in the forum...
