Good, But Not Great - Rockstar INXS
Sep 07, 2005 | 9:43AM
They started out with a Levi marketing photo shoot. I wouldn't mention any sponsors, except I wear Levi 501s every day and I love them. I'm afraid of zippers.

JD had a birthday party in the mansion (he turned 14) and they had a food fight to celebrate. Ah, Junior High...

Tonight, they had each rocker sing a song picked by the fans for them and one original song they wrote.

JD started the night off with Come As You Are by Nirvana. He is not Kurt Cobain or anything like him. It was typical JD. Over the top performance, touching girl's faces, twitching like a cockroach. It was a solid "whatever" performance. I'm sure the girls loved him. He sang his original song that he wrote a few weeks ago when he threw his little song writing tantrum. It had a hook, but he was just...just...JD. Our Band INXS said that he had been missing the last few weeks, but "tonight, you're back". They must be getting paid by Mark Burnett to keep the bad boy in the hunt as long as possible to build drama. Still not getting it...

Suzie sang I Can't Make You Love Me by Bonnie Raitte. This is a very hard song to sing and happens to be my one of wife's favorite songs, but she was impressed. Suzie had good control and a beautiful voice. I think she nailed it. She sounded great and I was feeling it. Her original song was Soul LIfe and she dedicated it to Ty Taylor, the guy who went home last week. The song was not great. Derivative, pop kind of song, but she sang it well. Good job. Navarro said that she had the strongest voice of anyone here. She got other praise from Our Band INXS. Two thumbs up.

Jordis finally got to sing We Are The Champions by Queen. This is the song that JD beat out of her and then blew big time in front of the world "because his sister was in the crowd...". Jordis had the voice and she rocked it. She sounded great on this. Had some of her own touches and made it interesting. I laughed and I was totally feeling this one. She did really good on this song. Her original song was dedicated to Marty Casey and was named "Try Not" about how this contest is hard and she's having trouble being who she is under the pressure. That's what I got from it anyway. It was boring. She sang well, but it wasn't great. Dave Navarro asked her if she was losing some of the fire. She said she felt like she stumbled.

Marty was given "Everlong" by the Foo Fighters to sing. He's been told not to scream so much so this was going to be hard to pull off. He did it by going acoustic. When it was toned down like that, his strength really came through. He really sang this well. OK, he screamed a little, but hey... The song needed it. It was heartfelt, solid, emotional. I liked it a lot. Best performance of the night. His original was a song he wrote named Trees. It was a really fun song, lots of hooks and energy and dancing around. It was about a man trying to convince a woman to fall in love with him. It was funny too. It made me laugh and gave me chills. I liked it. At the end of the song, someone threw panties on the stage. Yes, a black G-string on the stage. He picked it up and showed us all. What a moment that was. Ha! Our Band INXS gave him high praise. They said that his original song was the best of the evening. I concur.

The final analysis? I think Marty was the best, Suzie a close second. Jordis would be third (sorry) and Mig would be 4th. You know where I think JD should be. The votes at the end of the show were for all 5 Rockers in order. The order they showed us was:

1. Marty
2. Suzie
3. JD
4. Mig
5. Jordis

I guess the only way I can explain JD and Mig being higher than I think they should be, is that they have a large fan base among teenage girls. That's the only thing that makes sense to me.

Do you like JD or MIg? Will the results stay the same? Will they change? Will Jordis go home this week? Tell us in the forum...

I gotta agree that Marty's "Trees" was a very good song. I'm sure the band was impressed.

JD was maybe trying to hard to sonund like INXS with his song, "Pretty Vegas" but in the end I thought it was a good song as well.

Suzie's song was also good.

Jordis' original song? Mediocre at best.

Mig's original? HORRIBLE.

I'm guessing Jordis will be the one to go.

Ciao,

TC
