My Town.
Jun 22, 2007 | 4:34PM
So I was browsing YouTube a little while ago and I came across a video of the town my family come from. So I thought I would post it here along with some extra information and pictures that I have gathered from around the Internet.
The town and surrounding area has a very long history that predates the Roman times, more information about this and a history of the town can be found here: Gainsborough an Official Guide
The town’s home page can be found here: GAINSBOROUGH
I have also posted a few links to other sites that offer more in depth information on some of that main points of interest.
The town sits on the River Trent; The Trent is one of only two bore rivers in England. This means that the Trent is tidal, and, like the sea, has a tide twice a day, one in the morning and one in the evening.
The river itself has a fairly extensive and interesting history, some of which can be found on this fun page: THE RIVER TRENT. Let Fergal the frog take you on a brief tour.
In 1787, parliament approved the building of a bridge across the Trent to Nottingham. The stone bridge, with three arches, was completed in 1791

Most of the buildings that are shown along the banks of the river were old mills and warehouses that have been renovated and transformed into living accommodations and leisure facilities. More information and pictures can be found here: THE RIVERSIDE
All Saints Church
The first church was built here by the Knights Templar in 1209. In 1540, there was an old "chapel of stone" where many Danes were buried, and a dilapidated "chapel of wood" near the Trent.
That church was taken down between 1736 and 1748, except for the tower and rebuilt in a more modern style by Francis Smith. The tower dates from the 14th century. The new church was dedicated to "All Saints". In 1864, the church was remodelled and restored. The church seats almost 1,200. It is considered to be one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in the North Midlands.

The Old Hall
This magnificent 15th-century manor house is considered to one of the best examples of its type in the country. It was built by Sir Thomas Burgh c1460 and is principally timber-framed with a brick tower in the north-east corner which affords a magnificent view of the town.
The Great Hall, where both Richard III and Henry VIII banqueted, has a vast arched roof and its kitchens remain in near original condition.
Henry VIII was introduced to his last wife, Katherine Parr, at the hall in 1540. She was the widow of Lord de Burgh's eldest son.

The Hall was also used as a gathering place by the Pilgrim Fathers, more information on this can be found here: THE PILGRIM FATHERS
More information about hall can be found on its website: THE OLD HALL
So there you have it, a whirlwind tour of the town I was born in. I hope you enjoyed it. CLICK HERE TO COMMENT ON THIS BLOG

Sick of Drs
Apr 24, 2007 | 7:14PM
I have yet another specialist to go and see. This is connected to a claim I have had ongoing with my shoulder injury. This specialist I have to see has nothing to do with my shoulder though. He is being asked to look at my spine.
I've had a problem with it for about 8-9 years now, I suffer with a condition called anklosing spondylitis (AS), It's an inflammatory arthritis that affects the spine. AS causes erosion and damage to the joints it usually starts in the pelvis and travels through the spine.
Mine was pretty much located the the pelvis area in particular the sacroiliac joints (the joints joining the pelvis to the spine). I haven't had any major problems with this condition, funny really, it's not bothered me since I broke my shoulder.
I've been told by my solicitor that the people I'm suing for the damage to my shoulder are probably trying to find some way of getting out of paying higher future loss of earnings by saying I wouldn't have been able to work as long later in life due to my AS.
I've seen a report by another surgeon they had take a look at me, he said it was highly doubtful that my AS would cause any problems that could stop me leading a normal working life. So let's hope this next one comes to the same conclusion.
I'm so looking forward to being pulled about by yet another doctor.............NOT!!!!!!
It's been almost 6 years now since all of this started, boy will I be glad when all of this is over and settled.

Honoured Member?
Apr 21, 2007 | 6:55AM
I decided to go and do today's trivia, I took a wild guess at the two movie ones and YAY got them both right.
However I had to do a double take when I answered the 3rd question and was given the answer.
Anyone care to enlighten me on the pictures below?
Could it be the start of Skash's "Honoured Members" idea he posted on the feedback board?
