My personality, take 2
Jan 10, 2006 | 11:19AM

Okay, so in the post right below this one, I tried using my Westernized name, and it came up with some stuff, which I thought was roughly 80% accurate.

Then I tried plugging in my Chinese name into the same site, and came up with different results-- results that I'd say are even MORE accurate! I'd give it almost 100%!

EDIT: okay, I decided to take a cue from a friend and provide a play-by-play commentary. My comments are in green.

You entered: Kuo Hai Li

There are 8 letters in your name.
Those 8 letters total to 41
There are 5 vowels and 3 consonants in your name.

Your number is: 5

The characteristics of #5 are: Expansiveness, visionary, adventure, the constructive use of freedom.

The expression or destiny for #5:
The number 5 Expression endows with the wonderful characteristic of multi-talents and versatility. You can do so many things well. The tone of the number 5 is constructive freedom, and in your drive to attain this freedom, you will likely be the master of adaptability and change. You are good at presenting ideas and knowing how to approach people to get what you want [I'd have to go with yes on the "presentation skills", and it's interesting-- they're right about the "approach people to get what you want", albeit unwittingly!] . Naturally, this gives you an edge in any sort of selling game and spells easy success when it comes to working with people in most jobs. Your popularity may lead you toward some form of entertainment or amusement. Whatever you do, you are clever, analytical, and a very quick thinker. [Heh, I always thought it was due to sheer luck that I usually manage to come up with the right thing to say at the right time, especially when it truly counts!]

If there is too much of the 5 energy in your makeup, you may express some the negative attitudes of the number. Your restless and impatient attitude may keep you from staying with any project for too long. Sometimes you can be rather erratic and scatter yourself and your energies. [hehe, that's true-- I get bored quickly] You have a hard time keeping regular office hours and maintaining any sort of a routine. [Well, I actually LIKE routine, but also like flexibility with my hours :-)] You tend to react strongly if you sense that your freedom of speech or action is being impaired or restricted in any way. [True-- I chafe at feeling restricted in any way] As clever as you are, you may have a tendency to make the same mistakes over and over again because much of your response is glib reaction rather that thoughtful application. [This sounds like something my mother would say-- "you never learn!"] You are in a continuous state of flux brought by constantly changing interests.

Your Soul Urge number is: 1

A Soul Urge number of 1 means:
Your Soul Urge is the number 1. With a Soul Urge number of 1, you want to lead and direct, to work independent of supervision, by yourself or with subordinates. You take pride in your abilities and want to be recognized for them. You may seek opportunities to display your strength and usefulness, wanting to create and originate. In your desire to manage the big picture and the main issues, you may often leave the details to others. [This is true on all accounts. I like to think that my experiences as a military officer helped me blossom in such leadership-type roles.]

The positive 1 Soul Urge is Ambitious and determined, a leader seeking opportunities. There is a great deal of honesty and loyalty in this character. If you possess positive 1 Soul Urge qualities, you are very attainment oriented and driven to success. You are a loyal friend and strictly fair in your business dealings [Hehe, yeah, if by "strictly fair" you mean that I lack the ruthless drive that's required in cutthroat business dealings.]

The negative side of the 1 Soul Urge must be avoided. A negative 1 is apt to dominate situations and people; the home, the spouse, the family and the business. Emotions aren't strong in this nature. [Now THIS is spot on. I am NOT an emotional person by any means. It takes a LOT to evoke any sort of heartfelt response from me. And I do feel that I tend to dominate situations. Isn't that what a leader does, though? ;-)] If you possess an excess of 1 energy, you may, at times, be boastful and egotistic. You must avoid being too critical and impatient of trifles. The great need of the 1 Soul Urge is the development of friendliness, and a sincere interest in people. [This is also true, I can sometimes get caught up in criticizing the little things without taking the big picture into account. And developing more of a rapport with people is definitely something I need to work on]

Your Inner Dream number is: 4

An Inner Dream number of 4 means:
You dream of being a very solid citizen that people can depend upon. You strive for organization and predictable order. You want to be recognized as a person with a plan and the discipline to make that plan work like clockwork. [Oh, ABSOLUTELY. I thrive on organization and order. I'm good at making a plan, though my abilities to stick to it and follow through are a bit iffy]

I really can't possibly understand how numerology works, but I'm absolutely fascinated that you agree so strongly with the assessment! I guess this one is a bit less vague than others because it gives you different numbers for different parts, but there are really only.. okay I can't do the math, but combinations of the 9 types of people in this world? hehe. Of course I may be taking that back if mine is spot on too. Off I go to see... ;)

Hehe, yeah, I'd have to agree with you. Most such stuff is vague enough that you can always twist it to fit yourself.

And I think my first result was an excellent example of that-- vague enough to be mostly accurate.

The second one, however, seemed so much more, I don't know... forceful, that it doesn't leave a whole lot of room for interpretation. And I think that's what I found most fascinating. :-)

I definitely see what you mean. I'm blogging mine right now -- have to admit I was a little surprised.
