It's been a while ...
Jan 04, 2007 | 8:30AM
As 2006 ended with a flash, and far too quickly for my taste, I sit here and reflect on all the things that have happened, good or bad, this year.
I found a temp-to-hire job at the beginning of February, which ended abruptly toward the end of April. They had decided to bring in an employee who had worked for the company previously, and let me go. I got a call after 6pm on a Friday, from the temp agency, telling me that I couldn't get my things from the office, either.
If I hadn't lost that job, I wouldn't have been able to be a stay-at-home Mom for 7 glorious months! My son is thriving, and he is so cute when he talks. He turns 3 this month, and talks like he's a year older, at least. Now, if I could just find the "Off" switch for the violent behavior and destructiveness, I'd be even more happy.
My husband had found a MUCH better job in July and gave his ass-boss his notice, but left the job before that two weeks was up. His new boss was a dream come true, helping us to get back on our feet, from bills piling up. The job was going great!!!
I was able to make it to Las Vegas in September, to see my brother have a committment ceremony with his life-partner. It was a beautiful ceremony, and I couldn't ask for a better brother-in-law. It was a wonderful visit, seeing some of the sights of Las Vegas, and my son getting to see his uncles. My brother, Chris, was even able to make it from Chicago, and it's the first time that our entire family had been together since my wedding 4 and a half years ago.
My brother, Chris, left the big city life in New York City, to move to Chicago. He's doing all right, though things could be a little better for him. He finally got a twin-sized bed to sleep on, instead of the couch or floor, and his roommates were ecstatic about it! The simple things in life ...
Halloween was fun for Bobby. He wanted to dress as a pirate, so we bought the costume and he had a blast trick-or-treating. It would've been better if he had taken a nap during the day, and hadn't been so tired by the time we were done, but it was cute to see him at every door.
Thanksgiving was just terrific! We went up to see Greg's sister and her family, in Oklahoma. We had a good visit, and look forward to being able to see them again soon.
On the 22nd of December, Greg was fired from work. What a time to lose a job ... so Christmas was interesting, to say the least. We had already bought all of our gifts, for friends and family, so there was no way to take them back. We visited with Debby, Bob and Dan, opening gifts at their house on Christmas Day. Bobby had the motherlode, this year, in gifts. My best friend, Vada, even sent him 5 gifts from Washington State, even though she's never even met him. It was wonderful to see the joy on his face when he opened all his gifts.
Greg's been looking for work and has had a couple of interviews already. He's got a few more scheduled over the next few days, and we're really hoping he can get himself a job again. We decided that it would still be best for me to be able to stay at home, so I haven't been steadily looking for work. We're sure that something good will come out of this. We're hoping he can find a job for a little bit more money, and with benefits, considering his arthritis and medical expenses. Two of his medications are over $50 a month, and we really need a co-pay on those!!! LOL
We found out, yesterday, that the reason he got let go, was because his boss is closing his print shop, completely. The other girl who works there, is not being warned, so she will up a creek without a paddle in a few months. The only problem had been that we had found an absolutely gorgeous apartment, finally! It had a garden bathtub in the master bath, a private alarm, sprinkler system and full-size washer/dryer connections. The rent was significantly higher, so we weren't able to sign the lease, due to no income at the present time.
So, 2006 ended with a BANG, almost literally. However, things are beginning to look bright already for 2007, or at least, we can hope so!

"New" Car!!!!!
Jul 18, 2006 | 9:53AM
I have a 'new' car!!! It's a 1998 Toyota Sienna LE Minivan! It has tinted windows, power locks, power windows, AM/FM CD player, Air conditioning (with vents through the back), tilt steering, ABS, Front wheel drive........it's so awesome!!! It's even in great condition; no rust or dings anywhere.
Greg had to take it back to work today, so that they could put new front brakes on it and give it a tuneup and oil change. The only thing I don't know how to take care of, is getting it registered. Right now, it's an untitled vehicle, so I don't know how to get plates for it. We'll find out. I'm posting a pic from google of the van, but I'll take some today or tomorrow of the outside and inside!
I'm just so excited.....!!!!

Harassment.......
Jul 07, 2006 | 12:06PM
so, greg's on his way to work yesterday morning and looks in his rearview mirror to find his old boss, mathew, following him. now, greg works a little further south than his old job, and there was no reason for mathew to be in that neighborhood to begin with. so, greg sees him there and turns left into a residential area. mathew follows. greg speeds up and goes right, takes a left and another left, just to see mathew's tail end going straight to continue to follow. greg speeds up and loses him. i told greg that the next time he sees mathew behind him, to call 911 and report someone following him; remain at the same speed and, as much as possible, on the same road. mathew can be ticketed or arrested for stalking and harassment.
see, he's been trying to figure out where greg is working now that he's left. i'm surprised to know that mathew hasn't been calling greg on his cell phone and he hasn't been calling here, either.
meanwhile, the other graphic artist, who incidentally left two weeks before greg did, had to go back to work for mathew. the job that she had gotten for $11 an hour, worked her a lot of overtime in her first week there, but then told her that she'd be part time, only 3-4 hours per week. single mom with two kids.....she ended up having to go back to mathew. mathew, of course, is now offering to pay her $12 an hour, but he's out of the office so much that she has to run the entire shop. she's brand new and doesn't know a whole lot, but he's expecting her to run it for him. greg's trying to get his boss to hire her where greg's now working. even if it's for only $12 an hour, it'd be a calmer and better environment than where she's working now.

Great American Scrapbook Convention
Jun 12, 2006 | 9:40AM
What a wonderful time!!! A bit crowded, but all in all, it was a blast!!! My mom picked me up and drove me to the hotel in Arlington, TX. We arrived and saw Debby, just as she was preparing to leave her class for the evening. We all went up to the hotel room, and mom showed me all the things that she had learned how to do.
Mom and I hit the pool, and watched some of the "dive-in" movie. They were showing Sandlot 2. It was a pretty crappy movie, but that's okay. I enjoyed swimming and chatting with mom.
The next morning, I got out of bed around 8am. Mom and Debby had to be at a class, and took off. I looked and looked for Debby's car keys, so I could get mom's stuff in the car, but Debby had taken them with her. I headed down to the convention and decided to wait for them to get out of their class and get the keys from her at that point.
This was the entrance to the convention.
This is the hallway, just after people were being let into the convention. I was sitting and waiting for mom and Debby to get out of their class.

These were pictures of the crowds. I couldn't get very good ones, but it gives you an idea of how many people could've been there!
This is Tamara. She taught "Make and Take" projects during the convention. My mom was known as the "Troublemaker" during her visits to Tamara's make and takes.
This picture is my mom, Tamara and me.
It was loads of fun!!! By the time Debby got out of her class at 1:30 pm, we were all ready to go home!!!

The Pink Dress
Jun 09, 2006 | 9:22AM
There was this little girl sitting by herself in the park. Everyone passed by her and never stopped to see why she looked so sad. Dressed in a worn pink dress, barefoot and dirty, the girl just sat and watched the people go by. She never tried to speak. She never said a word. Many people passed by her, but no one would stop.
The next day I decided to go back to the park in curiosity to see if the little girl would still be there. Yes, she was there, right in the very spot where she was yesterday, and still with the same sad look in her eyes.
Today I was to make my own move and walk over to the little girl. For as we all know, a park full of strange people is not a place for young children to play alone. As I got closer I could see the back of the little girl's dress. It was grotesquely shaped. I figured that was the reason people just passed by and made no effort to speak to her. Deformities are a low blow to our society and, heaven forbid if you make a step toward assisting someone who is different.
As I got closer, the little girl lowered her eyes slightly to avoid my intent stare. As I approached her, I could see the shape of her back more clearly. She was grotesquely shaped in a humped over form. I smiled to let her know it was OK; I was there to help, to talk. I sat down beside her and opened with a simple, "Hello."
The little girl acted shocked, and stammered a "hi"; after a long stare into my eyes.
I smiled and she shyly smiled back. We talked until darkness fell and the park was completely empty. I asked the girl why she was so sad. The little girl looked at me with a sad face said, "Because, I'm different."
I immediately said, "That you are!"; and smiled.
The little girl acted even sadder and said, "I know."
"Little girl," I said, "you remind me of an angel, sweet and innocent."
She looked at me and smiled, then slowly she got to her feet and said, "Really?"
"Yes, you're like a little Guardian Angel sent to watch over all people walking by."
She nodded her head yes, and smiled. With that she opened the back of her pink dress and allowed her wings to spread, then she said "I am."
"I'm your Guardian Angel," with a twinkle in her eye.
I was speechless -- sure I was seeing things.
She said, "For once you thought of someone other than yourself. My job here is done".
I got to my feet and said, "Wait, why did no one stop to help an angel?"
She looked at me, smiled, and said, "You're the only one that could see me," and then she was gone.
And with that, my life was changed dramatically. So, when you think you're all you have, remember, your angel is always watching over you.
Like the story says, we all need someone... And, every one of your friends is an Angel in their own way. The value of a friend is measured in the heart. I hope your Guardian Angel watches over you always.

3 blogs in one....
May 24, 2006 | 5:42AM
I won't have the time to blog later today. My mom is coming over and we are taking Bobby to a playground. Then, we'll be heading to her house to make homemade jam. They are spraying for cockroaches (again) in my apartment today. This time, it's an actual pest control and they recommended that we remove things from our cabinets. I asked that they bait for them, too. They're so horrible.......
So, 3 blogs in one, so that you all have something to read today.
Personal Blog Idea of the Day:
Action, horror, comedy, romance, drama, slap stick, sci-fi (any other not mentioned).....what genre best describes your life? I think romantic comedy best describes my life. It's lovely, while remaining true to comedy. There are things that are too funny to pass up and ignore, and things that are devastating. All in all, it works out to be even.
I read this on Anastaza's blog yesterday, and asked if I could post it. So, here it is. Feel free to use it, if you'd like.

Mother's Day Story
May 12, 2006 | 12:51PM
The Story of Mother's Day
The earliest Mother's Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in honor of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. During the 1600's, England celebrated a day called "Mothering Sunday". Celebrated on the 4th Sunday of Lent (the 40 day period leading up to Easter*), "Mothering Sunday" honored the mothers of England.
During this time many of the England's poor worked as servants for the wealthy. As most jobs were located far from their homes, the servants would live at the houses of their employers. On Mothering Sunday the servants would have the day off and were encouraged to return home and spend the day with their mothers. A special cake, called the mothering cake, was often brought along to provide a festive touch.
As Christianity spread throughout Europe the celebration changed to honor the "Mother Church" - the spiritual power that gave them life and protected them from harm. Over time the church festival blended with the Mothering Sunday celebration . People began honoring their mothers as well as the church.
In the United States Mother's Day was first suggested in 1872 by Julia Ward Howe (who wrote the words to the Battle hymn of the Republic) as a day dedicated to peace. Ms. Howe would hold organized Mother's Day meetings in Boston, Mass ever year.
In 1907 Ana Jarvis, from Philadelphia, began a campaign to establish a national Mother's Day. Ms. Jarvis persuaded her mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia to celebrate Mother's Day on the second anniversary of her mother's death, the 2nd Sunday of May. By the next year Mother's Day was also celebrated in Philadelphia.
Ms. Jarvis and her supporters began to write to ministers, businessman, and politicians in their quest to establish a national Mother's Day. It was successful as by 1911 Mother's Day was celebrated in almost every state. President Woodrow Wilson, in 1914, made the official announcement proclaiming Mother's Day as a national holiday that was to be held each year on the 2nd Sunday of May.
While many countries of the world celebrate their own Mother's Day at different times throughout the year, there are some countries such as Denmark, Finland, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Australia, and Belgium which also celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May.

Bobby is a nut!!!
Apr 17, 2006 | 10:36AM
Running around, trying to get all of the easter eggs! We spent Easter with "family". My mom has a best friend, who we all stayed with when we first moved down to Dallas, Texas. She says that they're "adopted" sisters. They've been friends for 40 years!!! Anywho, we were all invited over for Easter dinner and an easter egg hunt. So, after church, we all went over and had a wonderful easter dinner. The kids were told to go outside and find their eggs. The oldest child, Nathaniel, who is 6 years old or so, had "N" on all of his eggs, and "J" on all the rest, so that he didn't take those. Bobby went ballistic, running over the other little ones to get to the eggs. He ended up with 3/4 of all the eggs, so Greg and I ended up making him share them with the other kids. He had so much fun - no nap makes a very tired boy at 6pm.
Before we all headed over there, right after church, we went back over to my parents' house. My mom shows him a basket, and asks him what it is. "Basket." "Go find your basket somewhere in the house," she told him. We all followed him into the living room, and he found it right away, hidden in plain sight on the bookcase. He immediately started eating jelly beans and Robin's Eggs (malted milk balls).
It was such a fun day yesterday!!! I hope you all enjoyed your Easter Sunday's as well!!!!

Cloud Nine
Feb 03, 2006 | 6:07PM
I am walking on Cloud Nine, right now!!! I had a phone call yesterday from Office Team, who I've been working temp jobs with for a few months. They had an opportunity for a temp-to-hire position as a receptionist for me. I went in today, for a working interview....basically, to see how I would like it and whether or not they would like me.
They didn't have enough compliments for my recruiter today!!! They were all impressed as to how confident and happy I sounded on the phone! They were all impressed that I learned the programs quickly! They even gave me a 50 cent raise, already!!! I'm only earning $10 an hour, but that could quickly go up, depending on how much more I can learn that isn't in my "job description".
I now have a full-time job!!! We can catch up all of our bills!!! I'm sooooo happy!!!!! Thank you, all my friends, for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers!! It's amazing how much God can help you, when you ask for it. I believe, truly, that He placed me into the job that he meant for me to have!!!
Oh, and on a side note, the band that I auditioned for did finally contact me. The singer who was going to leave, has decided to stay. But, the lead member of the band did tell me that he had a LOT of people come up to him at the bar last week, just to let him know how well I sang. He's keeping my contact info handy, so that if he sees anyone else looking for a singer, he will give them my info! Maybe, I can sing in a band someday, too!!!
