One of the most appealing things about the 2009 Honda Fit is the versatility of its cabin. The rear seats fold flat to allow for a whopping 57 cubic feet of maximum cargo capacity. The Focus comes equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. In most states, it produces 140 horsepower and 136 pound-feet of torque. Focus models sold in California and other select states meet the super squeaky-clean "PZEV" tailpipe emission tier; this is the case for our car, and consequently power drops slightly to 132 hp and 133 lb-ft. In instrumented testing, our four-speed-automatic-equipped Focus accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 9.7 seconds.

With all that said, the 2008 Mercedes-Benz E550 has an affable nature that should please most luxury sedan intenders. It has the firm, reassuring feel that's the hallmark of a premium Euro-bred sedan, and a plush ride quality, as bumps and ruts are absorbed without any excess body motions. Wind noise is virtually nonexistent, as is road noise, except when running over grooved concrete freeways (common in Southern California), where the latter is noticeable but not intrusive.
