The Amazing Cucumber

This information was in The New York Times several weeks ago as part of their "Spotlight on the Home" series that highlighted creative and fanciful ways to solve common problems.

 1. Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc.

 2. Feeling tired in the afternoon, put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber.  Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.

3. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower?  Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance.

 4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds?  Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long.  The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area.

 5. Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or to the pool?  Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers along your problem area for a few minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite.  Works great on wrinkles too!!!

 6. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache?  Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free.  Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!!

 7. Looking to fight off that afternoon or evening snacking binge?  Cucumbers have been used for centuries and often used by European trappers, traders and explores for quick meals to thwart off starvation.

 8. Have an important meeting or job interview and you realize that you don't have enough time to polish your shoes?  Rub a freshly cut cucumber over the shoe, its chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks great but also repels water.

 9. Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge?  Take a cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone!

 10. Stressed out and don't have time for massage, facial or visit to the spa?  Cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber with react with the boiling water and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown the reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final exams.

 11. Just finish a business lunch and realize you don't have gum or mints?  Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the photochemicals will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.

 12. Looking for a 'green' way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel?  Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, not only will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but is won't leave streaks and won't harm you fingers or fingernails while you clean.

 13. Using a pen and made a mistake?  Take the outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and markers that the kids have used to decorate the walls!

Three Cheers to the lovely Cucumber!

How much of your life do you spend living in the present?

Research shows that it's very little.  We
spend a lot of time ruminating about the
past, or speculating about the future to
make things worse, much of this "non-present"
thinking is negative.  We think about the
things we might have done, or we
think about the future dramas that may in
reality never occur.  Or we might just simply
wish it was Friday, and effectively wish
a significant portion of our lives away.

The secret to real peace and happiness is to
live in the present-to focus on "Now."

If you catch yourself living in another time
zone remember, the present is where
fulfillment is.

Bulletproof

When you have a clear idea of exactly where you're going, and you're committed to it, you are bullet proof. No person, no situation, no setback can stop you. You will find a way. Those who are just drifting can be swayed by the slightest breeze. It's different when you have a determined, specific goal. You may get blown off course occasionally, but you can quickly regain your direction.

Nothing anyone can say will discourage you when you KNOW exactly where you're going. No obstacle can stand in your way when your goal is in sight. Barriers disappear when passion and commitment take hold. The things that once held you back start to propel you forward.

You have the power to do whatever you want. The trouble is that power works against itself if it is not all aimed in the same direction. How far could you drive your car if the wheels weren't all pointing the same way?

Get focused. Decide what's important to you, and go for it. You've got what it takes. Your engine has plenty of horsepower. All you need to do is get your wheels all pointing the same way, and step on the accelerator.

Don't miss out on the value in this moment by wishing that it had somehow been different. Live it for all that it can be.
Don't let this beautiful day slip uselessly through your fingers while consumed with worry about what tomorrow will bring. Make full use of the time you now have, and that will put you in the best position to face anything that may come.

Whatever your age, or level of physical ability, or financial situation, there is something positive and valuable you can do right now. Consider all the beautiful choices that life is currently making available to you, and then seize the best of them.

You already know how satisfying it feels to make a positive difference. Realize that you now have the opportunity to experience that satisfaction again, right where you are.

Life is happening all around you right now. This moment is precisely what you make it.

Make it full, and rich, and memorable and valuable. Give your best to this moment and truly make it count.

The Lawn Mower

Last year, when the power mower was broken and wouldn't run, I kept hinting to my husband that he ought to get it fixed, but somehow the message never sank in.

Finally I thought of a clever way to make the point. When my husband arrived home that day, he found me seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. He watched silently for a short time and then went into the house.

He was gone only a few moments when he came out again. He handed me a toothbrush. "When you finish cutting the grass," he said, "you might as well sweep the sidewalks."

The doctors say he will probably live, but it will be quite awhile before the cast will be off!!!

How to save some American jobs and we can help!
Nov 04, 2009 | 7:13AM

Try to remember this EVERY TIME you have
to talk to a customer service representative
and you cannot understand them.  I did not
know that we could do this, but I sure am
going to try it.  Help bring jobs back to the
U.S.A.   Ask for an American!

How to save some American jobs and we can help!

Hi Everyone,

I want to share with you some great information that I found out purely by accident. I believe it can also save and create jobs in America while giving people better customer service.

So how many times have you called a companies service phone line and found that the rep can barely speak English? Once with a major mortgage company it was so bad I demanded to speak with someone who spoke English. Right at that moment I broke the code, the secret password for customer service.

Come to find out that
every American company using overseas operators must transfer you to an American rep. By saying.......

“I want to speak to a representative in America ".
(Don’t take no for an answer on this.)

This was confirmed by the American rep that they must transfer you after that request. I've tried it on a half a dozen major companies including cable, bank, phone and mortgage companies. It works every time and I actually get my issues taken care of.

Please feel free to copy this to your own blog or send it as an e-mail.
