"Trust" - A Poem
Oct 16, 2006 | 1:59PM

Trust

You speak of trust,

yet your translucent voice

says words of lies.

Those secrets you never said,

me knowing less every day.

I was a prisoner to my heart;

but no more.

It's over.

Behind the Scenes
Sep 27, 2006 | 7:14AM

Well, I now have 2 one-minute films under my belt and I'm on my way to being a filmmaker.  The first film I worked on is called "The Walk," which I worked on with my classmates in my production projects class.  We had to shoot it without sound originally, but later added some music to it for fun.  You can see it here at my friend Kelly's blog.

The second film I produced is called "The Designated Driver," which revolves around this house party that is included in my other teammates' films.  In mine, a young woman drives her friends to a party and expects to have fun drinking with them that night, but gets stuck with being the designated driver and can't drink.  As the night wears on she gets tempted by everyone else drinking and almost goes crazy.  It's only when she sees that her car has been stolen, that she gives in to temptation.

Here are some photos I took behind the scenes during the production of our films.  Warning:  Some images may be offensive to some viewers.  Viewer discretion is advised.

The Effects of Nitrous Oxide
Sep 17, 2006 | 5:44AM

This past Friday I went to the dentist to get a filling done.  I've never been one to like going to the dentist because I always get so tense in the chair and I have a death-grip on the armrests.  But, fortunately, this time I was much more relaxed since I got nitrous oxide to calm me down.

Now, the common misconception about nitrous oxide is that it makes you laugh and giggle, hence the nickname "laughing gas."  I did not feel giddy at all, though I was quite happy since I couldn't feel anything on the right side of my mouth.  Basically, if you've ever had your foot fall asleep, it feels like that almost all over your body.  My fingers felt tingly but they didn't get completely numb.  They placed an apparatus over my nose and it stayed there for the whole time the dentist was doing the filling.  As it was a fairly small cavity, it didn't take too long but I wouldn't have cared.  The nitrous oxide really made me feel more comfortable than I've ever been in a dentist's chair.

When he finished and took the nose mask off, I had to stay sitting for a while just so I wouldn't get a head rush when I stood up.  The right side of my face was still kind of numb for a few hours afterward, so whenever I took a sip of my drink it felt so strange.  I'm just glad I didn't bite my lip while it was still numb.  It was also funny how the numbness stretched all the way up to my right ear since I was listening to my iPod afterwards and kept fidgeting with the earphones.

I'll have to remember all this for my next appointment, which is actually coming up this Friday.  I'm going in for one of two appointments to get the ROOT CANAL done.  Aaaahhhh!  Sorry, I forgot how scary that word sounds.  At least I'll have my good pal nitrous oxide to keep me calm during the operation.

A Very Foggy Morning
Sep 07, 2006 | 6:08AM

When I looked out my window this morning, I was amazed to see how foggy it was outside.  From my window at Algonquin College residence, I'm supposed to see the college right across the parking lot; but this morning around 7 AM, I could'nt see it!  I took this photo just to show how dense the fog was:

Two of the Scariest Words You'll Ever Hear
Aug 28, 2006 | 4:48PM

Last week I went to see the dentist and found out I need to have a ROOT CANAL!!!!  Aaaaaahhhhhh!  Nooooooo, not a root canal!  I pretty much had a panic attack right in the dentist chair as he was telling me why it was the best thing to do.

Apparently, a filling on one of my back teeth (not one he did) is pressing up against the nerve so much that the tooth is dying.  The only way to save the tooth and keep it is to get a root canal.  I know, I cringe too when I hear those words together so I'll just refer to it as an R.C.

I got the filling done this past spring by another dentist and had some problems with it shortly after it was done.  The tooth became sensitive to hot and cold so I had to use Sensodyne for a while.  It's not sensitive any more, but sometimes it hurts when food gets caught between the two teeth.

I also found out that I'm going to need to get my wisdom teeth removed sometime soon, even though they haven't come through yet.  The two on my top jaw may come in within a year or so, but the ones on my bottom jaw are impacted so they definitely need to come out before they cause too many problems.

I'll probably get the R.C. done soon (probably in a month or two) and my wisdom teeth removed in December, just around the holidays so I can rest afterwards.  I'm kind of anxious about getting the R.C. done, even though my dentist reassured me about it.  Fortunately, I requested nitrous oxide (laughing gas) so I can be sedated during the procedure.  Thank goodness!

Back to School
Aug 25, 2006 | 3:39PM

Well, I'm back from my two month vacation in California and I'm ready to go back to school.  This will be my third year at Algonquin College, but this time around I'm taking scriptwriting instead of journalism.  And classes start this coming Monday.

Fortunately I only have one class on Monday and it's at 3 in the afternoon.  Also, this first class is more of a 'meet and greet' than a formal class with lectures and whatnot.  There's going be pizza, so I don't plan on skipping class.

I'm going to be taking some pretty cool classes like dramatic screenwriting and the history of Canadian film and TV.  I'm just really looking forward to sharing my stories with my teachers and classmates and see what they think 'cause I want to write great stories that will captivate and inspire people.

I already have some story ideas that I can turn into scripts for class, they just need to be fleshed out a bit more.  I even have written a story just for fun about the only female Oompa Loompa ever to exist.  It's not finished yet, but so far it's pretty detailed and funny (by my opinion, at least).

Yesterday, I moved into the college residence and I pretty much have everything unpacked and set up.  I'm up on the alcohol-free floor this year, thank goodness, since living on the second floor last year wasn't always that great.  It's not like I never drink alcohol (past posts will vouch for that), but it's just so much quieter and cleaner on this floor than the other ones.  I also have a nice roommate this year since some of my roommates in the past two years haven't been very friendly to me.

This morning, after spending my first night in my new room, I did something pretty stupid.  I walked out of my bedroom and into the kitchenette (the rooms here are more like suites than dorms), closing my door behind me.  I heard it click shut and said, "[censored]!"  The door had locked and my keys were inside!  I swore a couple more times and then knocked on my roommate's door and asked to use her phone to call the front desk.  Someone came within 10 minutes and unlocked my door for me.  So, now for the rest of the year, I'm leaving my bedroom door unlocked.

My name is Meagan and I'm a college student living in Ottawa, Canada. I'm a graduate of the print journalism program at Algonquin College and I'm currently taking scriptwriting there. I like art, tv, movies and rollercoasters. I like other stuff too, but I'll save that for later. I have an older sister, Sarah, and two step brothers, Dave and Peter. Those three live in California (lucky bastards) along with my Dad and my stepmom, Anne. I'm an Aquarius with an opinion, so I'm not afraid to post what I want, profanity or not.
