Mikey Went Fishing
Jul 15, 2009 | 10:27AM
Howard County Sheriff Jerry Marr got a disturbing call one Saturday afternoon a few months ago. His 6-year-old grandson Mikey had been hit by a car while fishing in Greentown with his dad. The father and son were near a bridge by the Kokomo Reservoir when a woman lost control of her car, slid off the bridge and hit Mikey at a rate of about 50 mph. Sheriff Marr had seen the results of accidents like this and feared the worst. When he got to Saint Joseph Hospital, he rushed through the emergency room to find Mikey conscious and in fairly good spirits. Mikey, what happened?" Sheriff Marr asked. Mikey replied, "Well, Papaw, I was fishin' with Dad, and some lady runned me over, I flew into a mud puddle, and broke my fishin' pole and I didn't get to catch no fish!" As it turned out, the impact propelled Mikey about 500 feet, over a few trees and an embankment and into the middle of a mud puddle. His only injuries were to his right femur bone which had broken in two places. Mikey had surgery to place pins in his leg. Otherwise the boy is fine. Since all the boy could talk about was that his fishing pole was broken, the Sheriff went out to Walmart and bought him a new one while he was in surgery so he could have it when he came out. The next day the Sheriff sat with Mikey to keep him company in the hospital. Mikey was enjoying his new fishing pole and talked about when he could go fishing again as he cast into the trash can. When they were alone, Mikey, just as matter-of-fact, said, "Papaw, did you know Jesus is real?" "Well," the Sheriff replied, a little startled. "Yes, Jesus is real to all who believe in him and love him in their hearts." "No," said Mikey. "I mean Jesus is REALLY real." "What do you mean?" asked the Sheriff. "I know he's real 'cause I saw him." said Mikey, still casting into the trash can. "You did?" said the Sheriff. "Yep," said Mikey. "When that lady runned me over and broke my fishing pole, Jesus caught me in his arms and laid me down in the mud puddle."
I tell you this to tell you about Gods work in my life.At a later time.((Hugs))

Remember The Old Screen doors
Jul 13, 2009 | 1:57AM
The Old Screen Door.
Remember those old screen doors, those made of wood with fancy corner design? No cool air conditioning then, yet a fan and screen door seemed oh! so fine ...
The screen door kept out pesky flies but squeaked open to welcome friends of mine... and sometimes strangers, or traveling salesmen trying hard to earn a dime...
Remember the small steel hook used to latch the door but rarely used anytime? And if the door spring broke, the door flew wide... time out to fix and realign...
Old dog would sprawl to nap right in the way, at the door's front line; pet cat thought the screen door to be her scratching post And oh! How Mom would whine!
"Don't slam the door!" Mom always called. I never learned; Slam! it went every time. Old screen-door scenes beckon language memories for which I often pine.

Summer Is Definately Here
Jun 29, 2009 | 11:58PM

Put On The Armor of God
Put it on, put it on, the armor of God Everyday we need the armor of God Put on the armor of God.
Wear the belt of truth around your waist Over your heart goes a righteous breastplate On your feet wear the Gospel of peace For the enemy's arrows use a shield of faith.
The helmet of salvation goes on your head So when the battle gets hard you can stand Use the sword of the Spirit, it is God's word Use the sword of the Spirit And stand, stand, stand on His Word.
The battle is not against flesh and blood But spiritual forces so put your armor on Stand in the battle and stand for the truth Everyday God's armor will help you.

Happy Father's Day,a Story About My Dad
Jun 20, 2009 | 8:13PM
I've had this story in my heart for a long time.I told it at church one fathers day. After having 3 taps on my shoulder.Thing was there was noone there to tap at the time. Now this goes back a few years. These are the ones involved. My older brother was 15,an aunt was 15,cousin was 14,& an uncle 17.Me 12.Everyone of us knew better or should have.We had been fooling around with the bull trying to be matadores. We finally gave up when no matter what that bull just looked at us and swung his tail.We go wondering into the woods behind the barn and find a treehouse up in top of a pine tree.I've since learnt you don't build anything in a pinetree or a pecan tree either. The limbs just might break at any time.Anyway, way up in top of this pine tree is a treehouse and oh it's gonna be a great place to hide out.Noone could possibly find us there.Boards are nailed up to make a ladder. Some of them would shift a little so we had to watch how we step on them.Course I was the first one sent up cause I was the smallest. It was pretty easy to climb. Now all this treehouse was was about 10 boards nailed into two limbs.Yep,we climbed up there alright.I like to have never turned loose of the tree to go out on the treehouse but when I did the others were coming behind me.My aunt came out on the treehouse and one limb broke. So back onto the ladder she went. When her weight was of the limbs it cracked again and the treehouse was setting at an angle where I could see it was hanging about a foot lower on the front side than the back side.I wasn't moving.Nope not a chance. All the others were on the ground yelling at me to come on,get down before it fell. That just made it worse for me.I couldn't move for nothing.I started saying go get my daddy and everytime I said it I said it louder.I don't know how many times I yelled but I knew I was in trouble when my daddy came around the bend and the look on his face was fear. But he came up that tree like it was nothing and he had one arm on the tree and reached out for me.He told me to take his hand and hold on,not to worry he wouldn't let me fall. And I knew at the moment he rounded the bend that I would be ok if that limb would hold just long enough for him to get to me.I still remember the strength in his hand as I took hold and felt him grab and pull.He told me to hang on around his neck and don't let go.There was noway daddy was gonna get loose from me that day no matter what.He started down the tree and stuck his leg out and kicked the leaning treehouse and I watched as it hit the ground below. It just seem to bust like a pane of glass.Down we came and daddy would pull each step loose and throw it after we were below it.I know we got letchered,I remember that. But that day I learnt a lesson. And later in life I learnt that our Father in Heaven has the same kind of love for us we just have to take his hand and let him keep us safe. And,all we have to do is call on him.No other love is as great.
Hope you enjoyed this,((Hugs))Marlene
