tips and strategies for Jewel Miner
Sep 19, 2008 | 4:25AM
Hi everyone,

I have put a lot of time into Jewel Miner, and I have developed a few strategies to get my scores in the 1mil area. I thought it would be fun to share this with others and get a weekly tourney going. I would love to do some play offs later on as we find ourselves deep into the chill of winter. I would like to award grab mart items along with the grabbles.

I thought it would be fun to have a tourney for everyone, and a low score tourney for others as they learn the game and different strategies. It would be great if we could start a million point club? I welcome everyone to add strategies or hints they have.

Jewel Miner is a fun game, but takes along time to play a good game. I rarely sit through a full game without doing other things, or even leaving it for the night and coming back the next day. I will be adding info as I think of it. Lately I find it hard to get all my info organized and written out. Must be older-timers setting in early lol.

I welcome questions here. Sometimes it is easier to help someone when you understand exactly where help is needed. Please drop a note and I will do my best to answer your questions. I am going to put out a note to the regular game players and invite them to add any info they would like to share with of us.

I am unable to do screen shots right now. For some reason, this function is not working on my comp. As soon as it is repaired, I will post some screen shots to help understand things better. You will not be able to apply everything at once. It will take a lot of practice to master some of these strategies.

Don't forget to take a look at the "How To Play" with the game. It has some good info for explaining the basics.

The biggest thing on this game is, It is not how fast you can clear a board, but how long can you stay on a level, racking up points and earning more powerups with quick moves. Again, stay on each level as long as you have watches to use, extending your time and mining more jewels. The game has 2 caves and, each cave has 10 levels. It is not important to go all the way through the levels and caves to get a good score. I have never been through all of them that I know of. I can usually get 1mil by the time I am on the 2nd level of the 2nd cave. 500,000 by the end of the 1st cave is a good game going.

Julie's powerups:

The first thing you want to do is fill up all your watches, TNT, and clovers. These are Julie's Powerups. You want to fill all three of them up to 5. This usually takes 3-4 levels when learning the game. Once you have gotten better, you will be able to fill up your Powerups in 1-2 levels. You want to use your extra time that is earned by using your watches, extending the time spent on each level. ALWAYS save one watch just in case. You do not need to use the clovers for anything. The TNT for emergencies only. Watches are used often and filled when the other two are full. Do not let your count of 5 watches stay at 5 when all powerups are full as you will only lose any you might gain while making matches. As soon as they are full click using 2-3 depending how much time you have already used. Check the mining cart below with the menacing thieves. Keep them as far right as you can. Each watch gives you an extra 30 seconds of play. So you can see how earning watches, and using them can really extend your time endlessly on a level if you are super good. Lol, not me.

You want to make your matches quickly to earn the powerups. If you listen to the tones, they continue to go up as you collect matches quickly. The scales found next to the miner Julie on the left side will move clockwise as you get closer to earning an extra move. you have something like 2.5 seconds to make a match. When you have made 10 successive, rapid moves, you earn a power up. I try to look for my next move as I click on the last one and the jewels drop. I like to divide the board in half and try to make my moves back and forth, allowing for moves both on the top half of the board the bottom.

Make as many matches that are in columns, Up and Down. This helps keep the board going. Keep the matches towards the top of the board. Making an occasional match towards the bottom keeps things from jamming up.

Match 4 powerups:

Matching 4 items will give you a TNT barrel, mine cart, or jackhammer. These can be an asset, as well as a problem. They can help by clearing several jewels at once, protect a last move, open up a tight board. It is a good idea to use them frequently, and don't allow too many to gather on the board. Keeping 1 or 2 is ok for future use, however, you will want to get them down to the bottom rows and out of the way ore or less. If they don't have any matches below them so they can fall, use them up. The ones that fall are the keepers. They are great for refreshing the board when it becomes tight, and only a couple moves are left.

Match 5 powerups:

Matching 5 items will give you a grab bag, TNT bundle or Miner's Helmet. The grab bag, holds one of each of the watches, tnt, and clover. If they are all full then you receive nothing. What I do is... If all 3 are filled, I use one of the watches, this way I am able to take advantage of a free watch powerup. The TNT bundle clears a large portion of the board, depending on it's position. The more centrally located, the better. The miner's Helmet: Watch the color, and when it matches the color of the jewels you want, click on it. The miner's helmet can be used two ways.
1. Match it to the color you have the most of.

2. Match it to one of the colors you have the least amount of. Why you may say, well this gives you numerous jewels that match each other, allowing for 4 and 5 Matches, and powerups.

Very Important:

You will want to keep a couple of squares from being cleared until you are about done with the level you are on. You can use powerups positioned above it within a couple of columns. Try to clear the far sides of the board when you begin the level and have a lot of matches available. I find the 2 corners the hardest if I don't get them right away. I have needed my TNT powerups to clear them when it was necessary to end a level. Often I am able to position a powerup to clear it when done.

Even More Important:

Keep a match under a powerup in case you run out of moves above it.

All of the strategies are impossible to use at all times, but in a perfect game...?
Now that your mind is befumbled, GOOD LUCK to you all. Over time you will find the game easier to play as you master some of these strategies. Come back often to re-read and also see what questions others may have come up with. I know others have found different ways to work around this game and it would be great if they would share it with us.

Happy Jeweling. If you need a question answered faster than the blog, g-mail me. I will make sure I check my mail frequently. I am sorry I am gone as much as I am on Saturday. I wanted to be available for people during the tourney, but I figured Sat. was the best day of the week for the game and that is one of my work days. I will see if any of our regular gamers would be available for help on Sat.

"At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new…India discovers herself again."
- Jawaharlal Nehru
(on Indian Independence Day, 1947)

After more than two hundred years of British rule, India finally won backs its freedom on 15th August, 1947. All the patriotic hearts rejoiced at seeing India becoming a sovereign nation and the triumph of hundreds and thousands of martyred souls. It was a birth of a new nation and a new beginning. The only fact that marred the happiness of the fruits by the blood of martyrs was the fact that the country was divided into India and Pakistan and the violent communal riots took away a number of lives. It was on the eve of 15th of August, 1947 that India tricolor flag was unfurled by Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, on the ramparts the Red Fort of Delhi.

The day is celebrated to commemorate the birth of the world's biggest democracy as a national holiday. Schools and people hoist the national flag through out the country and put them up on the rooftops and the buildings. People only go to offices to attend the flag hoisting ceremony. The Prime Minister addresses the Nation after the flag has been unfurled recounting the country's achievements of the year, discussing current major issues and future plans for the progress of the country. Recently, kite-flying has become a tradition on this day and people can be seen flying numerous kites of all colors, sizes and shapes symbolizing the freedom.

Haven't written much this week. It has been one of those weeks and tomorrow I see the Dr. My depression has been awful and I just keep telling myself it will get better. When it is like this I find socializing very difficult. Not sure why, I'll ask the doc.
I weighed in tonight and I have lost 2 lbs. I weigh 163. This is good. See everyone in the serfs games. Sorry for those I missed as exhaustion has taken its toll and I fall asleep at the computer the last 4 days in between work.

What a busy day today. It has been so warm and the wind calmed down. Between the 7 and 11 yr old then add the critters, it was impossible to do school today. They needed frequent recess. The dogs we put in the fence and let them chase each other and the squirrels who tease them as they run the tree tops and the garage roof. The cats are tearing up the house. It is like the indy 500 here between the upstairs and the basement. Once and awhile a dog has to chase them for good measure. What a gas! With all this comedy around here who needs to think of food.

Today is a good day it is my first day with no pop. I switched to ice tea and continue with a lot of water. I am refusing to snack before dinner as I want to save room for something good. My husband does almost all of the cooking. He is great when it comes to comfort foods. Just like we grew up on. Men are not afraid to throw a bunch of stuff in a pot and eat it. The fireman and their chilie is an example. Hot isn't the aim, what isn't in it is. They put every veggie you can think of in it, and 2 kinds of meat well,, it is fabulous. I am sitting here with a watering mouth thinking of it. Their fabulous steak fry is coming up and I cant wait. I will pass on the sour cream, but I will have to have 3bites of the sautated mushrooms and onions.

Better Health
Apr 14, 2008 | 4:53PM
Monday April 14 2008

Hi everyone. I am so excited to have finally decided to get my physical fitness back. Due to undiagnosed health issues I am no longer fit. A new Dr. has begun to help me with these issues and now is my turn to act and get back into shape. I was always so fit and athletic that the last three years have been down right depressing. Today I have watched what I eat I eat only when hungry and grab something healthy and balanced. I am unable to eat 3 meals a day. I eat once a day and have a snack. I am sure as my activity level increases so will my appetite. My weight today is 165lbs. My goal is to get back to 125-130. My weight just last week was 172 so I guess I hold a lot of fluid. Today for exercise I did my stretches only. My weekends are very demanding so I figured just stretches on Mon. is appropriate. I plan to do stretches 2x's a day and my exercise days will be Tues., Thurs., and Both Sat and Sun are quite physical with work. My goal is to exercise daily so that the weekend doesn't kill me like it does now. See ya all tomorrow.

Welcome to my Blog. My name is Shelly and my husband is Bill. We live in Minnesota USA with our large family. His, mine, and Ours. We have 5 boys and 3 girls. Ages 7-23. We have been homeschooling for 6 yrs. and love it. Our family became very close. Our home is filled with the joys of kids and critters as we have had a tendency to take pets who were on their way to the humane society and we always end up keeping them rather than finding homes. We have birds, guinea pigs, cats, dogs, and a couple of pygmy goats. Put this menagerie together and it is full of laughs. Every animal gets along with each other which is kinda strange.
I used to work as a Practical Nurse, however, due to health issues, I left the field. I sure miss it. My husband works for the family business which is the local phone co.
Our home is quite busy and filled with love!
