update on my dad
Nov 03, 2009 | 1:42AM
Sorry I didn't follow up on my last entry but my father was doing much better and I really thought he was going to be fine. I had a 4 day live in job Oct 28-Nov 1. I came home to a message on the answering machine from him. I called right away and he does have lung cancer :( He is not going to be treated, has said no to chemo (I sure don't blame him) and no surgery. His biggest fear is having these things done and turning into a vegetable, if that makes sense and having to go to a nursing home. He wants to die at home and my sisters are over all the time helping. So it is not good news and nothing more can be done. I am still kind of in shock. It doesn't sound like he has much time left.

Prayer request for my father please
Jul 28, 2009 | 3:01AM
I don't usually ask for prayer requests but my father in Kentucky is in the Intensive Care Unit gravely ill. I got a call from one of my brothers last night and was told dad had been rushed to the hospital yesterday and the doctors didn't give him much hope... He has severe congestive heart failure (of course this has been ongoing) but he also has his 3rd bout with pneumonia in 4 years. He has refused to have a breathing tube all he has is oxygen. He has stated many times this is what he wants so the doctors can't go against his wishes. I wouldn't want that anyway because he doesn't. I don't know if he will be all right, it sounds very bad. I can't talk to him because he can't talk. Please those of you who pray do, and those who don't please send healing thoughts.
Thank you

About the swine flu from a doctor I know well
Apr 28, 2009 | 9:24PM
The recent outbreak of swine flu and its rapid spread from Mexico into the US and other countries has caused many of our community members to ask what I think about the dangers of this new disease and the risk it poses to the population at large?
Here's what I know and think about it.
Swine flu is not a new type of flu. It is a known and recognized flu virus that causes pigs to suffer with symptoms similar to those that affect us humans when we get the flu. Most pigs just get over it the same way most of us get over the flu even if we are not immunized against it.
Transmission of the swine flu from pigs to humans occurs only rarely and it happens by droplet transmission. That means you have to be in contact with a pig who has the flu and sneezes on you. That situation is a very rare occurrence. But once humans do catch the swine flu from the pig, the disease spreads because humans transmit it to other humans much faster than the pigs do.
Swine flu is like other flu. It is characterized by fever, malaise, generalized pains and aches, sneezing. Runny nose, sore throat and occasionally diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pains. Overall the duration of the swine flu is the same as other flu 5-7 days.
Humans can protect themselves and everyone else from spreading the swine flu the same way we can protect ourselves from spreading communicable diseases in general.
To protect yourself from the swine flu you need to take the same measures you take to maintain a hygienic and clean lifestyle that support your immune system's optimal function: eat healthy foods, do not drink alcohol or other immune depressants, get 7-8 hours of sleep a night, exercise regularly, wash your hands frequently, do not come into contact with people who are sick and stay away from other people when you are sick. Common sense goes a long way and saves everyone who practices it.
A little perspective on the swine flu can help us learn not to react to the sensationalism associated with it:
1. In 2008- 37,313 people died in car crashes in the US. 2. More than 20,000 people die of the common flu in the US yearly in spite of flu immunization 3. There are approximately 15,000 murders in the US every year. 4. On the average 90 people die of lightening every year 5. Remember Anthrax? In 2001 we were all scared to death by it and 5 people actually died from the disease. I wonder how many died with heart attacks and strokes caused by the fear of Anthrax?
I am not being cavalier or trying to make light of a source of fear and confusion. I just want you to be smart and put things into perspective. Good attitude and good perspective are great tools for survival.

Thank you so much!
Apr 26, 2009 | 11:59PM
Thanks so much for making me shrinktastic star of the week :) Many thanks to catnip who told me the original picture I had in here was too small to see. I am having a terrible time with Windows Vista and my clients computer, although I am very grateful for them letting me use it. I was trying to size what shrinky sent me as an avatar to use, not sure I can do that now. http://www.grab.com/boards/b/home/topic/123467/692

Temblor Oct. 17 1989-March 31-2009
Mar 31, 2009 | 7:29PM
I am very sad yet relieved . Our cat Temblor had kidney failure. The vet did all he could (this has been going on for 2 years) and really she was fine. She was on a special diet, happy and watched carefully for any changes. I went away in Feb. for a 2 week job. When I returned I was shocked how much she had gone downhill in those 2 weeks. She looked as though she had lost 5 pounds, was weak, not eating much and miserable :( We did our best but the last week and 1/2 she became so weak we had to carry her to her litter box, she cried constantly, fell over. It was breaking my heart. It was also as though she went blind and deaf overnight, as well :( This evening we called the vet, not our cat vet because there was no way we would take her anywhere, that would have been so cruel!! Instead we called my horse vet who I adore. He agreed to come out and euthanise her. He does also work with dogs and cats so we had no qualms about him doing this. He was so sweet and gentle with her. She did not fight, nor cry, too weak. First he gave her a major tranquilizer in her right leg to relax her, and she went to sleep. That was new to me! Before I had seen cats put down with one major shot, often with horrid side effects, bless their hearts. When she was totally relaxed and in my husbands arms he administered the final shot in her other leg. My husband was in tears. I took Dr. Grey out to look at Dial so he could have 'alone' time with Temblor. We buried her in the backyard. It was hard, I will miss her terribly. Rest in peace little love...

Some Irish Humor for St. Patricks Day
Mar 04, 2009 | 11:30PM
Irish Humor What do you call an Irishman who knows how to control his wife? A bachelor. *** Definition of an Irish husband: He hasn't kissed his wife for twenty years, but he will kill any man who does. *** Courtship is a time during which the girl decides whether she can do better or not. *** Dinny was standing in the street the other day when an English chap came up to him and said, "I say old chap, could you show me the way to the nearest boozer?" Says Dinny, hopefully, You're looking at him." *** An Irishman who had a little to much to drink is driving home from the city one night and, of course, his car is weaving violently all over the road. A cop pulls him over. "So," says the cop to the driver, "where have you been?" "Why, I've been to the pub of course" slurs the drunk. "Well," says the cop, "it looks like you've had quite a few to drink this evening". "I did all right," the drunk says with a smile. "Did you know," says the cop, standing straight and folding his arms across his chest, "that a few intersections back, your wife fell out of your car?" "Oh, thank heavens," sighs the drunk. "For a minute there, I thought I'd gone deaf." Adorable tag from catnip100

TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART (Bonnie Tyler )
Turnaround, every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you're never coming around Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit tired of listening to the sound of my tears Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit terrified and then I see the look in your eyes Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit restless and I dream of something wild Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit helpless and I'm lying like a child in your arms Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit angry and I know I've got to get out and cry Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit terrified but then I see the look in your eyes Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart
And I need you now tonight And I need you more than ever And if you'll only hold me tight We'll be holding on forever And we'll only be making it right Cause we'll never be wrong together We can take it to the end of the line Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks I really need you tonight Forever's gonna start tonight Forever's gonna start tonight
Once upon a time I was falling in love But now I'm only falling apart There's nothing I can do A total eclipse of the heart Once upon a time there was light in my life But now there's only love in the dark Nothing I can say A total eclipse of the heart
Turnaround bright eyes Turnaround bright eyes Turnaround, every now and then I know you'll never be the boy you always you wanted to be Turnaround, every now and then I know you'll always be the only boy who wanted me the way that I am Turnaround, every now and then I know there's no one in the universe as magical and wonderous as you Turnaround, every now and then I know there's nothing any better and there's nothing I just wouldn't do Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart

"Just stopped by to wish you a happy New Year, but u weren't home. So i decided to wait for u in your grab room. i fondled your flowers and smelled your lava lamp. I accidentally broke your radio. It made me so mad I popped a few balloons & poked your kitty to let off some steam. Then I got bored so I wandered off into the night singing, "Spice, spice baby da-da-ding-ding da-da-ding-ding...." shrinky Added on: December 31, 2009 01:38 AM
